The Mid-Atlantic Mariners Club is an organization of professionals in the marine insurance industry. We are dedicated to raising the standards of the industry in terms of ethics, knowledge and professionalism, and to providing a forum in which members of the marine insurance community can learn about important issues of the day, and to network with each other. The Club was founded on August 21, 2003 and will have its fifth annual Crab Feast this summer. The Club has members that are Marine Agents, Underwriters, Claims Professionals, Attorneys, Surveyors, Investigators and experts in many other related fields.

The Mid-Atlantic Mariners Club was modeled after the Fort Lauderdale Mariners Club http://www.flmc.org/. The Fort Lauderdale Club was founded in the mid 1980’s by a small group of Marine Insurance Agents, and has gone on to produce some of the largest and best known educational events for marine insurance professionals in country. Their seminars regularly draw attendees from nearly every U.S. market, as well as from United Kingdom and other foreign ports. During its first year of existence, the Mid-Atlantic Mariners Club presented three seminars. These presentations brought together hundreds of attendees and touched on topics such as “The Claim from Hell,” concerning issues of fraud in insurance claims; the loss of the Pride of Baltimore, a live mock trial “The Loss of the Lucky III,” which looked at a trial based on the loss of a private yacht in a hurricane. Future topics are expected to range from the insurance issues related to environmental disasters, marina fires and arson.

As with the Fort Lauderdale Mariners Club, the hands-on managers of affairs are drawn from Club’s Officers. Anyone can attend planning meetings (just ask the Board), and we hope to see you at one of our upcoming events.
